Buying a car or campervan may be a worthwhile option if you are here for a long period and plan on covering a fair distance. Be careful when doing this, there are different laws and costs concerning registration and sale in each state. So make sure you check with the relevant motor regulatory body in each state before you buy or sell to confirm you know all the rules about certificates, inspections and transfers. Australians drive on the left hand side of the road. Please note Australia has very stringent driving laws and regulations, so ensure you become familiar with these before you commence driving.

It is strongly recommended that you DO NOT HITCH in Australia. The distances can be large, people giving lifts can be unreliable and it can be very dangerous. There have been many horror stories about hitch hiking in the past.
