backpacking Toowoomba
Toowoomba is a bustling inland city with a population of around 93,000. The city is located on the edge of The Great Dividing Range and is the heart of the Darling Downs. The city is 700m above sea-level and because of its altitude, the city enjoys a pleasant climate, free from excessive humidity. It is about a 1½ hours drive west of Brisbane and is the major commercial centre for the Darling Downs region. Toowoomba itself has wide, tree-lined streets, numerous pleasant parks and some attractive early buildings. Toowoomba is also a great base to explore the nearby lush mountains of the Great Dividing Range.
