If you are heading to Fraser Island, then Rainbow Beach is the southern access point. 13km north of the town you can catch the ferries from Inskip Point. It is also the northern access point for the Great Sandy National Park. There is plenty of beach around this small town and you can get some good surfing waves. 1km southeast is the 120m high Carlo Sandblow and beyond this, is the coloured sand cliffs which gave the town its name. South along the beach at Double Island Point is the wreck of the Cherry Venture and you can find tours from Rainbow Beach that will take you there.
