With a population of nearly 34,000, Port Macquarie is one of the larger resort cities on the New South Wales north coast. The city has the advantage of both river frontage (the Hastings River enters the sea here), and ocean beaches, which start virtually in town. During summer the city comes alive with people and activities. The main activities include; surfing, swimming, diving, fishing and cruising the Hastings River. The rugged geography surrounding Port Macquarie presents a challenge for even the most enthusiastic hiker and bushwalker, but adventure companies offer a good range of activities at affordable prices. |
