Situated 167 km north of Sydney at the mouth of the Hunter River is Newcastle. With a population of over 270,000, Newcastle is New South Wales’ second largest city. The city is the world's largest exporter of coal and until recently was the site for BHP’s major steel production facility. Newcastle has more to offer than just industry and commerce. Some of the best surf beaches in Australia can be found right on the city’s doorstep and the city itself has many examples of fine colonial architecture. |
