backpacking Mansfield
Mansfield, population 2,500 is a very charming sub-alpine town situated on Fords Creek in a pretty valley, which is also surrounded by the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. Because of its close location to the ski-fields, it is essentially a resort town and a great winter base for those heading to Mount Buller or Mt Stirling to do some skiing.

Mansfield is also very close to Lake Eildon and the Howqua and Delatite Rivers. Here you can partake in a variety of watersports, including white-water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming. The area around the lake is also good for bushwalking, horse-riding and four wheel driving.
