The vast Kakadu National Park is one of the largest and best-known National Parks in Australia, covering an area over 19,800 square kilometres. The park hosts an extraordinary range of scenery including spectacular gorges, rugged escarpments, amazing waterfalls and lush wetlands. It is also home to many different living species, including more than 1,600 plants, 60 mammals, 290 birds, 120 reptiles, 50 fish and 25 frogs. |

During the tropical summer months Kakadu's waterfalls are spectacular, the main falls include Jim Jim and Twin Falls. Here you can also see the resident freshwater crocodiles. Other areas of the park contain some of the oldest geological formations on earth. Kakadu is also a great place to see some of Australia's best Aboriginal rock art and culture, which has been there for up to 50,000 years. |

Also worth visiting in the park, are the Bowali Visitor Centre and the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Both of these places offer a great Aboriginal perspective of the park with displays, presentations and galleries.
There are many ways to see Kakadu, these range from 4WD, walking, adventure tours, boats, helicopter and aircraft. It really depends on your budget and the amount of time you have. |
