83 km's south of Cairns, Innisfail is one of the few towns in north Queensland to remain relatively untouched by the tourism boom. The town is situated at the junction of the North and South Johnstone Rivers. Surrounding the town is a large sugarcane region and other farming areas. There is usually year round casual work available to backpackers in these farming areas.
Nearby the town is the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm and Josephine Falls and further away along the Palmerston Highway in the Atherton Tablelands is the picturesque Wooroonooran
National Park. This park contains some beautiful rainforest,
creeks, waterfalls and has some great scenic walking tracks. |
