Tour Details
Departing Melbourne at around midday, we travel through the city’s south-eastern suburbs and onward through the fertile farming lands of the Gippsland region.
You’ll enjoy a visit to a boutique regional winery, with included tasting of the locally produced cool climate wines. Here we learn a little about the wine making process and vineyard practices as well as sampling both table wines and fortified wines.
Our next stop is a regional fauna park where we meet lots of our favourite furry Aussie friends. You’ll enjoy a guided tour of the park with lots of interesting information provided about a wide range of native species including kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, emus, wombats and even Tasmanian Devils.
A highlight is an opportunity to cuddle a baby wombat, and everyone enjoys hand feeding the friendly kangaroos and wallabies. You can even pose for a special photograph with one of the local koalas.
From here we travel on to Phillip Island itself with a chance to visit the spectacular Cape Woolamai Surf Beach and appreciate the powerful swells of the Southern Ocean as they pound relentlessly at the island’s southern coastline.
We then proceed to the south-west tip of the island where we have time to wander the scenic boardwalks that cling to the coastal contours. Panoramic views include the Nobbies, rugged rocky outcrops abundant in marine life, and Seal Rocks, the home of Australia’s largest population of fur seals.
And then it’s onwards to the main event, where just after dark every night the world’s smallest penguins waddle ashore after spending the day fishing out at sea. You’ll be truly enchanted as the stars of the show emerge from the surf and pass right before your eyes on their journey back to their homes. Your guide will ensure you are able to get the very best vantage point to enjoy the Penguin Parade and will help to keep you toasty warm with a complimentary hot cuppa.
For an exclusive viewing experience, upgrade to the more personalised “Penguins Plus” viewing platform. With numbers limited to 150, you’ll enjoy special ranger interpretation in a more natural setting. This option also includes a complimentary hot beverage.
After the parade we allow plenty of time to explore the Visitor Centre before beginning our own journey back to Melbourne. On the homeward journey our industry-first personal video service allows customer to enjoy a movie of their choice on their individual entertainment unit.
With drop off right back to your inner city accommodation, you’ll remember this day as a true highlight of your Australian holiday.
