Founded by the Geeves family, some of their descendants still live in the town. Geeveston is an important base for the timber industry and it is also the gateway to the Hartz Mountains National Park. This national park is very popular for its walking tracks as there is some great scenery to see, including the glacial lakes, gorges, rugged mountains and rainforest areas. The park is known to change climate very quickly, so be prepared for this when venturing into the park.
