This small river town takes its name from the Aboriginal ‘Berri Berri’ which means big bend in the river. Located by the Murray River, Berri was originally a refuelling stop for the wood burning paddle steamers that traversed the river. The town is a good base to undertake bushwalking, camping, canoeing and bird watching in the nearby Murray River National Park. Also, the Berri Estates Winery is only 7km away and is one of the largest wineries in Australia and is open for wine tasting. |
