backpacking barossa valley
This area about 55km northeast of Adelaide, is arguably Australia’s most famous wine region. The valley is about 40km long and 5 to 11km wide and produces around a quarter of the Australian vintage. The Barossa has over fifty wineries, all most of which, are open to the public. Wine tasting is free of charge, so planning to stay overnight is a good idea, as you will be amazed at how quickly all of those little sips can add up and leave you unable to make your way back to Adelaide. Most of the towns in the area are quite small, but have a variety of attractions making them worth the visit.
