backpacking Sydney
Sydney CBD extends from Circular Quay on Sydney Harbour to Central Railway Station. This is quite a large and diverse area. The Circular Quay area is Sydney’s main ferry terminal, here you can catch ferries to many parts of Sydney and the Manly ferry is definitely worthwhile to get a great view of Sydney Harbour. Adjacent to Circular Quay is the Rocks, Sydney’s oldest area. This is a very pretty and quaint place. This area has plenty of activity day and night, with great shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as lively pubs and nightclubs. There are also markets on the weekend.

The main business district is very lively during business hours. Pitt Street Mall is one of Sydney’s main shopping areas, where you will find a great selection of stores to choose from. Further west is Darling Harbour, a relatively newly developed area in Sydney. There is much to do here, including visiting the Casino, Sydney Aquarium, Sega World, Imax Theatre, or the Australian National Maritime Museum. There is also a huge choice of restaurants, cafe’s, pubs and nightclubs to visit.
Further south of the main business district is China Town, where you can experience the Chinese culture and great shopping bargains. Finally, there is the area around Central Railway Station. There is not a great deal of activity in this region apart from business people during working hours or the cinema area along George Street.
