Airlie Beach has a reputation as a place to learn scuba diving, and a wide variety of agents operate from there. Most boats travelling to the Whitsunday's and the Great Barrier Reef leave from Shute Harbour, 8km to the east of Airlie Beach, or from Abel Point Marina 1km to the west.
The newly developed Airlie Beach Lagoon provides safe, clean year-round swimming for all visitors and there is plenty of great restaurants, shops, nightclubs and bars to keep visitors entertained.
